Grilled Banana and Apple Fluffernutter | The Hopeless Housewife

This is my childhood favorite sandwich that I still have a love for….a delicious mashup of marshmallow fluff, apples, bananas and peanut butter, all grilled into a melty gooey “mess” of a sandwich. The only thing that could make this better maybe is some…wait for it…bacon (you guessed it)! But I decided to go “vegetarian” on this one and stay true to what I ate as a kid. As my daughter would say, this Grilled Banana and Apple Fluffernutter is “totes” yummy.

Ingredients

  • 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and sliced (half apple for each sandwich)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 3/4 cup- 1 cup marshmallow fluff
  • 1 banana, sliced (half banana for each sandwich)
  • 4 slices sourdough bread

Instructions

  1. If using a panini maker: Assemble the sandwich by spreading the peanut butter on the first piece of bread, spread marshmallow fluff on the other piece of bread, place banana and apple in the middle, and put sandwich together. Brush each side of grill with butter or cooking oil, then put into the press and serve. If using a regular skillet or grill pan, heat pan over medium heat and brush with a little butter or cooking oil. Place sandwich in pan, using a weight to press sandwich down, then flip over and repeat until marshmallow fluff is melty.
