My Mother' Apple Crisp | The Hopeless Housewife

My mother’s apple crisp never stays in the pan long! It’s delicious served warm or cold with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  • My Mother’s Apple Crisp

    Ingredients

    • 8 cups sliced granny smith or Newton's, sliced in food processor with the round slicing disc - you want them to be thin
    • 1/2 cup orange juice
    • 1 cup butter
    • 2 cups white sugar
    • 1 1/2 cups white flour
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
    • dash salt

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
    2. Place apples in a large bowl and pour orange juice, stirring to coat apples. Put apples into a buttered 13" glass pan.
    3. Combine butter, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in food processor and pulse a few times until crumbly. Cover apples with crumbly mixture and bake until until bubbly and topping is crisp - about 45 minutes. Cool completely on rack before eating.

Tasty recipe❗ – I prefer to cut apple’s by hand into 1/4″ slices or chunks so they don’t breakdown so much (which may require a little more baking time) also, I like to blend some sweet apple’s in with the tart Granny Smith and Pippin to make your salavory glands burst & your tastebuds dance❗
    Thanks for your recipe

Does the butter need to be cold or softened when combined in the food processor with the other things?
